📢BREAKING NEWS: The #Queensland Government is moving to ban plastic microbeads, cotton bud sticks, loose fill polystyrene packaging, and the mass release of lighter-than-air balloons on 1 September 2023 - in a second wave of plastics to be banned under plastics laws.The government has also said they will introduce a reusability standard for carry bags, which will in effect ban disposable heavyweight plastic bags.Balloons and plastic bags are particularly lethal for seabirds and turtles, posing both an entanglement risk and causing life threatening internal blockages when eaten. Now we have Covid, we also have Covid waste. On a short walk this morning I counted 35 disposable masks and 16 plastic gloves by the side of the road. We need to protect the health of our environment during this pandemic too, otherwise it will affect our health in the months and years to come. When you are out of the house your mask is supposed to be on your face protecting you and others, not on the roadside. Please dispose of masks and gloves in the right place for public health and the health of our environment. ... See MoreSee Less
