For the first time ever, the Vanuatu is taking part on the Great Southern BioBlitz. This is a citizen science program engaging scientists and public in the Southern Hemisphere to explore and document animals and plants in a given time period. This year, the event will be held on the 24th to 27th of November. You are invited to participate!

Scroll down to see how to join the fun!

Whether you can participate for all 4 days or just 5 minutes on one of the days, you are welcome to join in. You don’t need to be an expert at all – that is the beauty of iNaturalist – there are thousands of biologists round the world on the platform ready to help you identify what you are seeing and help us all learn more about the wildlife around us

Go out and explore on you own or with friends or family. Or if you need some pointers VESS will be

on the Seafront in Port Vila at 9am on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November

to show you how to use iNaturalist and see plants and critters we can find in Port Vila town.

Meet outside Big Blue next to Nambawan Cafe

If you want to increase your observation count try one of these:

Shake a tree and see what creature fall out

Moth night  -see below for instructions

Make a sound recording

Turn over rocks – either on land or on rock pools on the shore and see what you can find – remember to put the rocks back where they came from and be careful of things that bite like milpads!

Let’s see how many species we can record in Vanuatu during the four days!
